The tragic accident occurred in the southeastern province of Guangdong on Wednesday (May 1).
State broadcaster CCTV said that part of the highway between Meizhou City in Guangdong Province and Dabo Province collapsed around 2 a.m. local time. At least 18 cars fell into the hole. There were a total of 49 passengers in these cars. Top news for visit now
As of 11:45 a.m. local time, 19 people had been confirmed dead, CCTV reported. The remaining 30 people are undergoing treatment in hospital. However, they are reportedly not in danger at the moment.
In a video clip circulating on social media, several cars appear piled up in the potholes on the collapsed section of the highway.
The smoke from them spreads around them.
Another video shows a pile of cars on fire. But it was not possible to immediately verify the authenticity of these videos.

According to CCTV, authorities sent about 500 people to the scene to assist in the rescue operation. These include people from departments that manage public safety, emergency response, firefighting and mine rescue.
